The conference held in October, has been a crucial point for the work performed by the project Anim.Al.See. On that occasion, the results of the research and the elaboration of concepts related to the alternatives to animal experiments, according to the 3Rs model, have been submitted to representatives of different stakeholders and experts. The aim of this conference was discuss the final report, with respect to missing aspects, disagreements, unclear concepts etc. with a wider audience. Indeed, the optimisation of the final report and the reinforcement of the related recommendations have been the main outcome of the conference. They will be useful in:
-
Defining and clarifying the weight of the different conceptual components involved in evaluating possible alternatives to animal experimentation;
Identifying the different roles and interactions of the various subjects involved, and their responsibilities;
Helping to increase the awareness of scientific community, general public and regulators, on the complexity of the interactions between the different responsibilities;
Helping bioethical committees to evaluate and decide on possible alternatives in the use of animals as experimental models, in specific research projects;
Helping decision makers to improve the existing normative related to animal experimentation, on the basis of a common understanding of functional standards.
In the following, the program of the conference is reported, as well as the list participants, the executive summary of the report provided to all of them, the summary of the conference and the presentations of the invited speakers.
